Kleinsub Norway 2026 – A Week of Spearfishing, Community and Wild Conditions

Another Kleinsub trip to Norway has come to an end.

Once again this year, we headed towards Norway with a bus full of equipment, enthusiastic participants, and plenty of excitement to experience the Norwegian sea beneath the surface. The goal was a week of spearfishing, freediving, great experiences, and hopefully plenty of fish.

And Norway delivered.

Not necessarily the weather we had hoped for – but certainly a trip we'll remember.

Heading to Norway

The journey began in Fredericia, where we picked up the participants before continuing north through Denmark. After taking the ferry from Hirtshals to Larvik, we continued towards our base in the Hitra area.

It's a long journey, but when you're travelling with a group of people who share the same passion, time passes quickly. There are plenty of conversations about equipment, spearguns, previous catches, and of course the expectations for the week ahead.

When we finally arrived at the cabin, it was time to unpack and get in the water.

A Week on the Water

Every morning began with breakfast and planning the day's diving.

In Norway, the weather plays the biggest role in deciding the programme. Wind, waves, currents, and visibility can change the plans from one day to the next, so a large part of the trip is about choosing the right dive spots at the right time.

Each day, we divided into two groups. One group went shore diving, while the other headed out by boat to explore new locations.

This gave everyone the opportunity to discover both the areas close to the cabin and some of the many exciting hunting grounds around Hitra.

Not Quite the Weather We Had Hoped For

Unfortunately, the weather didn't show its best side throughout the week.

We had several windy days and changing conditions that made it necessary to adjust our plans. Some of the dive spots we had hoped to visit simply had to wait for another trip.

But that's also part of spearfishing.

You can plan everything perfectly at home, but once you're standing by the sea, nature decides.

Even with the challenging weather, the spirits remained high throughout the week.

There was still plenty of diving, laughter, fish being caught, and stories shared around the dinner table every evening.

Aspetto, Agguato and Patience

Spearfishing in Norway is very different from what many of us are used to in Denmark.

Deeper water, rocky coastlines, kelp forests, and an incredible amount of underwater structure create completely different hunting opportunities.

Much of the hunting is based on aspetto and agguato techniques. It's all about staying calm, moving slowly, and using as little energy as possible.

Instead of constantly searching for fish, it often pays off to find a good position, settle quietly on the bottom, and simply wait.

And sometimes, that's when the reward arrives.

From Shore and by Boat

One of the great advantages of this trip is the combination of shore diving and boat diving.

During our shore dives, we used our large Kleinsub Sea Guard floats. They make it much easier to transport equipment and reach dive spots that would otherwise be difficult to access from the coastline.

From the boat, we're able to travel further and choose locations based on the conditions of the day.

When diving from the boat, we use torpedo floats, giving everyone more room onboard for equipment and divers.

Fish on the Dinner Table

Of course, food is also a big part of the experience.

Throughout the week, we had the opportunity to prepare meals using some of the fish caught during our dives. It's hard to beat freshly caught fish that has only been out of the sea for a few hours.

The evenings became a combination of cooking, sharing meals, and exchanging stories from the day's adventures.

That's what makes a trip like this so much more than just a spearfishing holiday.

More Than Just Spearfishing

One of the most important parts of Kleinsub trips is the community.

Participants come with different levels of experience, but everyone shares the same passion for spearfishing and freediving.

There are discussions about techniques, equipment, and catches, but there's also plenty of helping each other rig spearguns, prepare the boat, and solve challenges whenever conditions don't quite go according to plan.

You return home with much more than fish.

You return with new experiences, new friendships, and hopefully the desire to join another adventure.
